Home Learning Week 17 - Ontario, Apple Taste Test, Denim Purse

Oral Reading - Critter Club, Various Library Books

Improving fluency, reading with expression, reading for meaning; making predictions; reading for enjoyment
I think they kidnapped the dog; it's called The Clue of the Missing Puppy! See? The missing puppy! Oh my god - this is scary!

Who the heck is this person? Ch. 14 - The Surprise Guest. Oh! It's a surprise, for sure! Probably a vampire, right? It's in the night...

Oh - not a vampire.

Spelling - "ck"

Memorizing spelling rules, sounding out, using Scrabble tiles and Word Spin

Geography, Language Arts - Ontario

VLC Homework: Ontario flag, symbols of provinces, loonlicense plateNiagara Falls
Learning about Canada, Internet research, writing, colouring inside the lines

Math - Addition and Subtraction

Using "clues" to determine how to solve different types of equations: using number line for +1, -1; using "10 partners diagram" for 10-; adding "teen" for 10+; using Cuisenaire rods or Math Playground to solve equations without number clues
6) Hold on. What the heck is going on here? Oh, an eight.

12) Two and a ten - so how do I do it, Mom? A nine... It's three!

13) Ten minus six. Four!

14) Five plus four. How do I set this up? I don't get it. Ha! A nine! It's a nine. Nine! Oh boy, that's dramatic.
Do you think Andrew's going to be impressed? How much? Like, what number?

No one messes with me, right now; I'm doing this right! How proud are you? No help from Mom... Oh no: Moom - that does not work.

Taste Test - Apples #2: Pacific Rose vs Envy vs Fuji

Comparing using senses of smell, sight, taste, touch; stating preferences and explaining reasons

Mm! Sweet. Very sweet. Almost tastes like cotton candy! Cherry cotton candy!

Physical Education: Running Laps

We should do sixteen laps!
................
How do you feel, Mom... how do I explain it? Energetic! I feel much more better doing that - how do you feel, Mom?

Did you know Diego is faster than me? He's like a master and a pro! He zips all over.

Cooking - Using Up Overripe Ingredients

Measuring, counting, making up a new recipe to not waste food, tasting/evaluating

Strange Smoothie

4 brown, soft pears
1 wrinkly apple
1 perfect banana
1 tbsp hemp hearts
1 tbsp flax seed
2 tbsp lime juice
9 ice cubes
1 L milk

The banana and apple don't really stand out together. I guess there's a lot of ingredients to here.

Writing - Shopping List

Executive functioning: making lists to aid memory; legible printing; listening, sounding out words

Sewing - Denim Purse from Pockets and Discards

Trimming piping ends, pinning, hand basting with cotton thread, machine stitching (patch pocket), cotton vs polyester thread
I'm doing it. I'm doing it. I'm doing it. I'm doing it. I did it!

This can be like my little snack place.
Machining, using zipper foot, "steering", backstitching to secure, clipping threads, cutting, cleaning up all the feathers!
When I'm a grown-up I can put a milkshake in there and go to work. If I had work.

Oh yeah, that's nice, that's real nice. Oh my god, yay! I think I'll put energy bars if I went to the gym.

Do you think I'll rock it? Should we do selfies? I got a feather in my nose!

    1. Who's that? That's kind of scary - 'cause it is kind of scary, right? Is it Tammy? Probably not - right?
      Thank you, whoever you are!

    2. Those apples look tasty. Which was the best? You are indeed rocking the bag, but I'd leave the feather out of my nose!

    3. HI Jeff,

Thanks for commenting. Envy - 'cause it tastes like cotton candy. It tasted like eggnog.

  2. Envy apples taste like cotton candy or eggnog? Sound delicious. All we get here are Fuji apples- they are ok but too sweet for me- I like tart apples. Or apple tarts, or tarts. All kinds of tarts. ;-)

  3. You're a sour kid! I didn't try tarts before, probably because it's too sugary.

  4. I am pretty sour! :-) Yeah tarts are pretty sugary- so they are not very healthy to eat. I wish I could get tasty apples in Japan like you can in Canada.

    Are apples your favorite fruit?

    1. Yeah, pretty much, right? And oranges, kiwi, tomatoes (I eat tomatoes at Dad's). I like mangoes a lot. Bananas - I love bananas. Watermelon - pickled watermelon - I never tried it before. I think that would be fun and kind of strange. We are going to grow watermelon. We are going to PICKLE watermelon!

  5. Pickled watermelon is pretty interesting. My sister read a poem about pickled watermelon so she asked my mom to help her pickle some. Let me know how it tastes when you make it. Okay?

  6. We should make it in the summer so you can have some, and we can try some, too. Did you try it before?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yes I had some a long time ago, so I don't really remember how it tasted. Maybe we can eat some this summer.

  8. Yeah - first we have to plant it.

  9. Did you plant the watermelon yet? You must have planted something in your garden...

  10. Not yet. The garden is going to be built very soon, and then we're going to plant. We're going to plant watermelon inside our house.
